CARBONDALE -The Gay People's Union of Southern Illinois University is sponsoring a gay conference Halloween weekend (October 29, through October 31st). Activities will include organizational meetings, a picnic at Giant City State Park, workshops, parties, support groups, a masquerade ball and
more.
It is hoped that the conference will be the foundation for greater interaction between the gay communities which exist in the Midwest. Ohio organizations which would like to run a workshop or give a. presentation and individuals wishing to attend may call Garth Wallich at (618) 457-5948 between the hours of 5-10 p.m. (except Wednesdays) or by writing to 515 S. Lincoln,, Carbondale, Illinois, Apt. 20.
There will be a $5.00 registration fee which will cover the cost of beer for the parties, food for the picnic, housing and rental facilities. Those who register before October 25th will be guaranteed housing. All in person registration will be held at the New Life Center, 913 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale, Illinois, the site of the conference. Amtrak, Trailways Bus and Air Illinois arrive in Carbondale daily.

1) The Gay SwitchboardHotline award of the month goes to Bob Merschsh who has been working 2-3 days a week on the phones. Due to a drop in volunteers and other technical problems, Bob has been helping out by working long, hard hours.

RAP GROUP
CLEVELAND The Rap group that meets Fridays at the Free Clinic is still going strong and has decided to write a column each month regarding its activities. An average of 15-20 people attend each weekend and discuss a wide variety of topics in informal atmosphere.

Recently, the group discussed coming out to parents, new events in the community, problems in relationships, polygamy vs monogamy, consciousness raising, educating the straight community and discrimination in bars.

INDIANA'S HALLOWEEN
The
BLOOMINGTON Bloomington Gay Alliance's annual Halloween Dance has been scheduled for 10:00 p.m. til 2:00 a.m. Oct. 30, 1976 at the Poplars Research and Conference Center 400 East 7th Street in Bloomington, Indiana. Charge at the door will be $1.50 per person.
Theme of the Dance this year will be "A Hollywood Opening Night" with decorations planned to highlight the theme. Such a theme is expected to give everyone a wide choice of costume possibilities.
Music will be provided by DiscoTrans a popular local Disco music service. Limited refreshments will be available; however, if arrangements can be made in time, a cash bar serving beer and mixed drinks will be set up for Dance guests.
The Poplars Center is a hotel and convention facility owned by Indiana University and located adjacent to the University campus. The Dance will be held in the Main banquet rooms which are accessible through the main lobby...
For the last six years the Annual Gay Halloween Dance has been a major Bloomington social event, drawing large crowds from all over the Central Indiana area. Last year over 1200 persons attended the event.
Dress for the occasion will be anything you feel like wearing -special costumes are not required.

CINCINNATI
CINCINNATI Gay Jesuit theologian, noted philosophical scholar, and author of the recently published book The Church and the Homosexual, Fr. John McNeil will give a lecture on November 6, to members of Dignity/Cincinnati and others. McNeil has published major articles on moral theology and ethics and gave the keynote at Dignity's first national convention in Los Angeles in 1973.
Members of Dignity/Cleveland are planning on attending the speech and staying in Cincinnati for the weekend. For further information call Phil at (216) 791-0942. Those interested in purchasing Fr. McNeil's book are asked to do so through Ohio Dignity chapters, because larger financial return will go to national Dignity headquarters for the purchase.

TOLEDO-The Personal Rights Organization of Toledo announces its annual Halloween ball will be held on Friday, October 29th from 8 p.m. 1 a.m. at the Diehn Legion Post, 5580 Centennial Road, Sylvaniz, Ohio.
A donation of $5.00 is requested and beer will be made available free. Those wishing to drink other beverages may bring their own bottles. Tickets will be on sale at the door and in most Toledo gay bars on Friday and Saturday nights through October.
P.R.O hopes the Toledo Gay ball will provide closeted gays in other parts of the state a chance "to get away from the pressures of their home territory for an enjoyable night of fun, somewhere that they can feel free to let loose."
